Women’s Super League: The Rise of Women’s Football
Once seen as a niche sport, women’s football is now a fast-growing commercial force, attracting record crowds, major sponsors, and global attention.
The Women’s Super League (WSL) reported £65 million in revenues in 2023/24, a 34% jump from the previous season. Matchday earnings rose 73%, broadcasting revenues increased by 40%, and sponsorships now account for 40% of total income.
By 2025/26, revenues are projected to reach £100 million, driven by a record broadcast deal with Sky and the BBC, as well as Barclays’ renewed £45 million sponsorship. Digital growth is equally impressive: TikTok views up 154%, and Chelsea’s women’s team is reaching 271 million views.
